Okko The Exiled Deevols & Underground Levels Guide

The Underground is Okko The Exiled’s optional challenge mode, and it is the main reason 100% takes far longer than the story.

What Deevols are

Deevols are the runaway minions of a demon who lives in the basement under The Old Throne. He sent them out to find missing parts for his elevator, and they never came back. Each one you find in a stage returns to him, and enough of them get the elevator running down into the Underground, which he describes as a huge prison full of treacherous creatures. (This is the setup as shown on the developer-hosted launch stream.)

How the counting works:

  • On the world map, each stage shows a Deevol counter (0/5 in the first stage) next to a turkey-leg icon for that stage’s food ingredient.
  • Your total is shown in the Inventory, on the abilities tab, bottom left.
  • Deevols you find stay found even if you die before the next checkpoint.
  • Revisit a stage after finding its Deevols and a giant red ruby sits where each one was: extra gems on replays.
  • The elevator’s own tab shows what each depth needs. On stream, 2 Deevols opened depth one and five were enough for depth two.

Finding all of them earns Excavator (2.3% of players in launch week).

How the Underground works

  • There are 20 Underground levels in total.
  • Each one is a small platforming challenge followed by a combat challenge, in the developer’s description.
  • They unlock as you collect more Deevols.

Clearing all 20 earns Spelunker (2.4%). Clearing all 20 without taking damage earns Untouchable, the rarest achievement in the game at 0.6%.

One launch-week player found the first Underground challenge hard because Okko was not upgraded yet, but cleared it later. So there is no shame in leaving them until you have more abilities and upgrades.

Tips for Deevol hunting

  • Bounce to reach odd ledges. Down-attack bounces off enemies and skulls are how you get height for secrets.
  • Try Focus on suspicious objects. A press review notes Focus Mode is used on some puzzles and chests.
  • Watch the world-map counter for each stage so you know exactly where you missed one.
  • Look for suspicious walls and furniture. The developer pointed out several hidden areas on the first stage that the streamer walked past, and some breakable furniture doubles as a bounce point.
  • Levels can be replayed, and later abilities (dash, double jump, uppercut) reach spots you could not before. Replay from the world map, since leaving a stage mid-way restarts it anyway.

Tips for Untouchable

  • Do Spelunker first so you know every layout.
  • Max Heartbeat Energy and Dragon Break first (Focused, Omnismash): faster kills mean fewer chances to get hit.
  • Use your 2 Pact slots for whatever makes the combat half safer; swap freely between attempts.
  • If you use a controller, play on the D-pad until the stick fix is confirmed on the fix log.

All three are on the achievement checklist.

Did this get you past that part of Kutala?
